Privacy Policy

Summary

BookBook is an iOS app designed to help you track your reading habits. Our core principle is simple: your data belongs to you. BookBook does not require an account, does not keep an account or reading profile on our own servers, and does not include advertising or third-party analytics/tracking tools. Some features may use iCloud and book information services as described below.

1. Data We Collect and Store

The data you enter in the app — your books, reading progress, notes/quotes, goals, cover photos, series and lists, and purchase records — is stored primarily in your device's local storage. The developer cannot access the local data on your device.

For Home Screen widgets, a small summary of data is written only to the shared app area (App Group) on your device.

2. iCloud Backup

BookBook currently backs up your library automatically, when you leave the app, to your personal iCloud Drive space linked to your Apple ID. These backups are stored on Apple's infrastructure under Apple's privacy terms; the developer has no access to them. There is not yet an in-app option to turn off iCloud backup; this explanation will be updated when that option is added. You can manage iCloud Drive from your device settings or delete BookBook backups from the Files app.

3. Data Sent to the Internet

BookBook sends internet requests only in the following cases:

• Book search and barcode (ISBN) scanning: The search text you type or the scanned ISBN is sent to Google Books API and OpenLibrary to retrieve book information. No information that directly identifies you is sent in these requests; however, as with any internet request, your IP address may be visible to those services. Their own privacy policies apply.
• Cover images: The cover image for the book you choose is downloaded from these services and saved to your device.

Other than these requests and iCloud backup, BookBook does not send reading data, notes, library content, or usage analytics to our own servers.

4. Device Permissions

• Camera: Used to scan book barcodes and printed text for your notes. Camera images and recognized text are not sent anywhere; recognition happens entirely on your device. Scanned text is added to a note only when you choose it.
• Photos (add only): Used only to save the quote and summary cards you create to your photo library. The app cannot read your existing photos.
• Notifications: Used only to send an on-device reading reminder at the time you choose. This feature is off by default; it works only if you enable it and can be turned off at any time from the app settings. No data is sent to the internet for notifications.

All permissions are optional; if you do not grant one, the app continues to work normally except for the related feature.

5. Purchases

BookBook Premium subscriptions and purchases are handled entirely through the Apple App Store. Your payment information (card number, etc.) is processed only by Apple; the developer cannot access it in any way. The app receives only information about whether the purchase is valid (anonymous entitlement status) from Apple.

6. Analytics, Advertising, and Tracking

BookBook does not include an analytics SDK, crash reporter, advertising network, or any third-party tracking technology. Your behavior is not profiled, and your data is not shared with or sold to anyone.

7. Children's Privacy

Because BookBook does not collect personal data, it does not create an additional data risk for children. Even so, the app is not marketed to children under 13 and data is not knowingly collected from children.

8. Your Rights

Because your data is on your device, you have full control over it:

• Access and portability: You can export all your data as CSV or a backup file from Profile → Export.
• Deletion: You can delete all your data from Profile → Reset Data, or remove the app to delete all on-device data. You can delete iCloud backups from the BookBook folder in iCloud Drive.

For requests related to your rights under applicable privacy laws such as GDPR or Türkiye's KVKK, you can use the contact address below. Since the app does not collect personal data, most requests can be completed immediately with the on-device tools above.

9. Changes

This policy may be updated from time to time. For important changes, the current version will be published on this page together with the update date. Continuing to use the app means you accept the current policy.
