No, an account is not required. Your data is stored primarily on your device. iCloud backup is currently on by default; backups are written to your personal iCloud Drive space linked to your Apple ID and are not sent to a server the developer can access. If you use online book search or barcode scanning, the search text or ISBN is sent to third-party book services to retrieve book information.
From Profile → iCloud Backups, you can see the automatic backup status and create an immediate backup with "Back Up Now". iCloud backup is currently on by default; when you leave the app, your library is automatically backed up to your personal iCloud Drive space and the last 5 daily backups are kept. You can also export a .bookbook backup file or CSV from Profile → Export.
Make sure you are signed in to iCloud with the same Apple ID, then tap "Restore" next to a backup in Profile → iCloud Backups. If you have an exported .bookbook file, you can also use Profile → Import → BookBook.
Tap the barcode icon on the Add Book → online search screen and align the barcode on the back cover with the frame. Scanning happens entirely on your device; the camera image is not saved. If camera permission was not requested, you can grant it from Settings → BookBook.
Reminders are off by default. If you enable them, you receive a local notification created on the device at the time you choose; no data is sent to our own servers to schedule notifications. You can turn it off at any time from the app settings.
Widgets refresh automatically when you make a change in the app. If they do not update, open and close the app once. You can also long-press the "Currently Reading" widget and use "Edit Widget" to choose which book is shown.
Subscriptions are managed through Apple: on your device, go to Settings → [Your Name] → Subscriptions → BookBook. For refunds, use Apple's reportaproblem.apple.com page. To restore purchases on a new device, tap "Restore Purchases" on the Premium screen.
You can choose from 9 languages from Profile → Appearance → Language. Widgets also follow the language you select.
Yes. From Profile → Import, you can import Goodreads and StoryGraph CSV exports, Bookmory backups, and BookBook backup files. Your current data is backed up automatically before import.
Profile → Reset Data deletes all app data. To delete iCloud backups, remove the iCloud Drive → BookBook folder in the Files app. Deleting the app removes all BookBook data from the device.
We build BookBook together with readers. Send us the features you would like to see by email — our roadmap is shaped largely by user suggestions.
